Distinguished Majors

The Distinguished Major Program allows outstanding music majors to work on large-scale projects during their last two semesters at the University. The project may consist of a thesis, a composition, or the performance of a full recital. Any level of distinction is an honor, showing strong Departmental admiration for a student's work.

Brander Wyatt Morrison Prize

The Brander Wyatt Morrison Prize was founded by Colonel James L. Morrison, Jr. in memory of his mother. Mrs. Morrison, who studied piano at the University of Virginia some 70 years ago, was active for many years in musical circles in Richmond and Petersburg, Virginia. The Morrison Prize is the Department’s most broadly-defined award for undergraduates, recognizing overall achievement at the end of a student’s undergraduate years.
